Remember when you read posts comparing the two that master defaults to always on and a lot of users aren't even aware that it's even there, let alone the knowledge of how to set up a Fantom and XV identically. With master on the Fantom gets a lot bigger and punchier, but that's cheating in my book because you can accomplish the same thing with outboard compression and eq. Let me know if you do decide to sell the 5080!ĭon I don't have the XV-5080 but comparing my XP-60 to my Fantom S with identical waves and filters (there are quite a few waves carried over contrary to popular opinion) with master off the only difference that was clear was a little more low bass. And the last s/h 5080's I've seen going have been offered for the same price as the s/h 5050's, and somewhat less (2/3) than XR's.

I don't think that the Fantom is patch compatible with JV & XV sounds. You KNOW chick has well documented the Fantom's problems, and is personally responsible for devaluing it so much! Last thing i want to happen is once i get Fantom XR i find out XV-5080 had a better sound quality and effects section. Is it possible that some of these XV-5080 features degraded in Fantom XR? I wonder, there must be a catch somewhere that XV-5080 and Fantom XR have almost the same price. All these tests were performed on same patches.
Filter also sounds better on XV-5080, more power, cleaner resonance and far better envelope response compared to XP-30. Second big difference i noticed is the effect section, again more definition and sound width on XV-5080. On XP-30 when you got a patch with 4 tones, it gets muddy, but on XV-5080 each tone has a definition and nothing is lost. First thing i noticed was the definition of the sound. Anyone did side by side tests?įor example yesterday i did a test on XP-30 (it is based on JV-2080 engine but uses 24 bit DAC) vs XV-5080.
Is there really some difference in the quality of the sound, definition and effects? (except obvious ROM sample rate difference between Fantom 44.1k and XV-5080 32k). It just worries me why it sells for the same as Fantom XR. From financial side, looks ok, the price havent changed a bit, in last 2 years. due to lack of cash i think about selling my XV-5080.
